In the late 1950s and early 1960s, a
young boy named John Gasperik was
often spotted walking around the
neighborhood with a 45 in his hand.
The 45 (not a gun), was Elvis's Hound
Dog. He would play that record on
anyone's turntable that would listen.
By the mid sixties, two new discoveries
were made; The Beatles and Garage
Sales. Since then, the collection has
mushroomed into the mass collection
available at Shake Rag Music today.
Many jaws have hit the floor upon
entering SRM. With all the guitars,
amplifiers, gold records, autographed
pictures, posters & album covers, you'll
think you've died and gone to rock-n-roll
heaven; and that is just the first room!
Shake Rag Music is a Rock-N-Roll
museum, a feast to the eyes and ears, except here, the items are for sale!
John Gasperik, (owner and founder of SRM) got into the photography business by shooting on movie sets, i.e. 'Semi-Tough' with Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson, as well as parties at the legendary 'Mother Blues' nightclub in Dallas, with such classic bands like Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Frank Zappa and many more. He shot hundreds of concerts, promotional photos, LP and CD covers for local DFW bands and in the late 1990’s was the house photographer for the Dallas Hard Rock Café.
About that time he was hired to shoot the Dallas Guitar Show. When he saw the prices guitars were going for it opened his eyes. He decided that there was another way he could make a living, with something else he loved, guitars! He started buying guitars and equipment at garage sales and flea markets where he had been searching for records B.E. (before eBay). To keep the inventory fresh, John still shops the sales to this day.
